AdBlue® is a solution required to ensure diesel engines with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems meet the latest Euro 6 exhaust emission regulations
It is a specially formulated liquid (made of urea and deionized water), injected into the exhaust stream to help neutralise harmful gases and diesel emissions, including nitrogen oxides (NOx).
AdBlue® is now a requirement in many countries—including the United Kingdom for the newer diesel engines. If a SCR-equipped vehicle runs out of AdBlue®, it will fail to start. This makes regular top-ups of the solution essential for the vehicle to function properly (and meet emissions standards).
